AFWA Virtual Annual Meeting
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA) will hold its annual meeting virtually. A virtual conference is the best way to engage, share and connect with the natural resource community during this challenging time. The annual meeting is a key mechanism to advance AFWA’s mission by connecting agencies and resource professionals across North America. We hope that you will join us for an exciting and innovative virtual experience.
What will a Virtual Conference Look Like?
As we move the annual meeting online, we look forward to offering the same informative and timely content from presenters and the space to connect with members, sponsors, and exhibitors from across the region.
The virtual conference will include our regular schedule and opportunities for engagement, including keynote speakers, panel sessions, expanded workshop offerings, committee meetings, and networking opportunities.
In addition to participating in the live events, all attendees will have access to recordings that can be viewed at any time. Moving our in-person conference to an online format presents us with the unique opportunity to explore new tools for online collaboration and connection.
Why Attend a Virtual Conference?
COST AND TIME SAVINGS: Save time and money by conveniently accessing content from your home or virtual workspace. For as little as $45 a day, you can attend sessions hosted by your conservation colleagues across North America. Group volume discounts further those cost savings. Without the hassle and cost of travel, you can focus on maximizing your session experience and networking abilities while also attending to work and family responsibilities at home.
FLEXIBILITY: Participants will have access to the full schedule of meetings, either live or recorded, and can move easily between sessions. Recorded sessions allow participants to view content at their convenience both during and after the conference.
SUSTAINABILITY: By eliminating the need for travel and reducing the energy required for an in-person event, our virtual conference will have a much smaller carbon footprint. It will also avoid the large amount of waste that would typically be generated at an in-person event (e.g. coffee cups, fliers, brochures).
A MORE INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES: A virtual conference will allow you to connect with a larger audience, many of whom may have not attended due to cost and travel constraints. Consider involving more of your staff who would not have been approved for travel in past years. We'll also be offering a variety of networking opportunities to meet and interact with professionals across North America. Networking Opportunities: A virtual environment will provide new opportunities to engage fellow attendees in real-time chat, discussion forums and one on one video with other participants, with presenters, and with exhibitors. EXPANDED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: NEW! this year we will be offering multiple workshops on leadership and conservation topics. All will be included in the reduced registration fee. The full workshop schedule will be available soon
TIMELY PLENARY SESSION: Join us Wednesday, September 9th from 9:00-11:00am for Conservation in the Time of Coronavirus - Social Pandemics. Cultural pandemics. This year’s Plenary Session focuses on the social and cultural pandemics of our day against the backdrop of a coronavirus.
