PLENARY SESSION | The 75th Anniversary of A Sand County Almanac: Fullness of Nature and Wellness in our Time

Aldo Leopold is no stranger to the conservation community. Considered the seminal architect of wildlife management, a champion for a new land ethic, and a true Wisconsin hero, his influence has shaped conservation delivery to this very day. His poetic spirit, highlighted in A Sand County Almanac, shapes a continuing passion and vision for nature and the human condition. He wrote, “We reach the full use of nature when we reach the fullness of ourselves.” Perhaps he had another Wisconsinite, John Muir, in mind, who wrote “Between every two pine trees there is a door leading to a new way of life.”

Our three plenary speakers will look, in part, to the past regarding a conservation ethic and implications for a life nurtured by time outside.
